Cobras ink defensive star Catelyn Van Es

The Kilsyth Cobra Women have inked their first piece for the 2026 NBL1 season, signing young forward, Catelyn Van Es.

Van Es joins the Cobras following a standout season in the Big-V, where she helped lead the Bulleen Boomers to a state title earlier this year. The 6’2 forward starred with the Boomers, ranking fourth in the league in blocked shots, while her strong postseason play saw her earn Finals MVP honours in 2025. Despite being just 20 years old, Van Es boasts a winning pedigree, with this years Big-V state title her second, and third appearance overall in the championship game.

Van Es played her junior basketball with the Dandenong Rangers, with her rapid improvement seeing her establish herself as one of the nation’s top promising young bigs. Her outstanding play in 2025 has seen Van Es earn a WNBL contract, with the defensive specialist signing with the Townsville Fire as a Development Player.

New head coach Emilee Whittle-Harmon’s first signing gives Kilsyth an elite interior defensive presence with a plethora of upside, with Van Es the first of many young, exciting pieces set to join the Cobras in 2026.
