3-and-D specialist Ben Ursich has re-signed with the NBL1 Cobras for an eighth season.

Ursich enjoyed yet another impressive season with the Cobras in 2022, leading the team in steals (1.4spg), three-point makes (53) and three-point percentage (46%), while ranking fourth on the team in scoring (10.5ppg). An elite perimeter defender and shooter, Ursich recorded nine multi-steal performances, while scoring in double-digits on 15 occasions in 2022, once again stamping himself as a premier two-way player in the NBL1 South.

The former Maroondah Magic junior recorded a season-high 20 points in a Round 2 win over the Casey Cavaliers, while his five three point makes – also against the Cavaliers – in Round 15 marked a season-best performance from deep. Ursich’s incredible perimeter length also served him well off the ball on the offensive end, with the 6’7 wing’s elite cutting routinely punishing opposing defences. Ursich’s high IQ on both sides of the ball mirrors that of an experience veteran, but the Maroondah Magic junior’s NBL1/SEABL career is just 99 games young, with game 100 set to come in the Cobras season opener against the Geelong Supercats on Saturday night.

Ursich has also established himself as a valued leader both within the Cobras locker room and on the court. And combined with his elite IQ and two-way play, Ursich is a coaches dream to work with on the perimeter – where he forms part of a three-headed monster alongside Corey Jeffs and Jamie Ahale.

“Ben is the young veteran of the team and a key member of the leadership group,” Godfrey said.

“He’s part of the trio of two-way elite wings, along with Corey and Jamie. He will take another step this season knocking down corner 3’s and defending the best of our opponents rosters.”
