Star guard Nikita Young has re-signed with the Kilsyth Cobras for the 2024 NBL1 season.

Young put together an impressive second NBL1 season with the Cobras, ranking third on the team in scoring (12.7ppg), rebounds (5.4rpg), assists (2.3apg), while her quick hands and anticipation saw her rank fifth in the league in steals (2.3spg). She put together four 20 point point performances in 2023, while her six steals in a Round 13 win over the Tigers marked a career best.

Possessing an electric first step, the Mt Evelyn Meteors junior is able to get to the basket at will and finish in a variety of ways, while her improved passing saw her develop into an exciting all around playmaker for the Cobras. She was arguably more impressive on the defensive end, with Young serving as a the Cobras marquee defender for most of the season as she routinely guarded opposing team’s top offensive option – regardless of position. With the Cobras front court decimated in 2023 due to lack of player availability, Young – a natural combo guard – was often moved to the power forward position, where she proved to be a defensive weapon as she utilised her quick feet and hands to become a major disruption.

Her standout year on the defensive end, coupled with her expanding offensive game saw Young shortlisted for the league’s Youth Player of the Year award, and she recently joined fellow Cobra teammate Georgia Booth as a development player signing for the Southside Flyers in the WNBL.

After taking another significant leap in 2023, and a season to come in the WNBL, the sky is the limit Young heading into 2024 with the Cobras.
