Brett Spicer’s Women won their third game in four outings on Saturday night, defeating the Eltham Wildcats on the road, 71-60. Led by some impressive performances from Bree Mackenzie, Taylah Black, Chloe Anderson and Grace Moxey, the Cobras were able to pull away in crunch time, opening the final quarter with an 8-2 run to keep Eltham at arms reach.

Mackenzie finished with game-highs of 25 points and six steals, Black added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Chloe Anderson and Grace Moxey chipped in with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Women are now just one game behind Bendigo for fifth in the Watson Conference standings with a 7-10 record, and are closing in on Waverley for the conference’s final playoff position.

Mark Landells’ Men did it the hard way against Diamond Valley on the road, hanging on for a 73-70 win to move to 11-5 on the season. After blowing out the Eagles at home earlier this season, the shorthanded Cobras found the rematch to be far more challenging, and with their high-powered offence struggling late, Kilsyth had to rely on it’s defence to escape with a three point win. The Cobras held Diamond Valley scoreless over the final four minutes of the game, with the only scoring during that span coming off free throws from Mitch Dielemans and Jed Wilson to put Kilsyth ahead for good.

Dielemans led the Cobras with a game-high 25 points, Wilson added 10 points off the bench, while Jorden Adnam recorded an 18-point, 16-rebound double-double in the victory. The win was the Cobras eighth in their last nine games to give them sole possession of second place in the Watson Conference Standings.

Both the Men and Women return home this weekend as part of a special Saturday night Tripleheader. The NWBL Cobra Men take on Adelaide at 4pm in Wheelchair Basketball action, with the VYC Women to follow against Dandenong at 6pm, while the VYC Men cap off the evening against Sherbrooke at 8pm.
