Furness joins the reigning NWBL champion Cobra men with over 20 years of coaching experience both in Australia and New Zealand. A former high school and junior coach in New Zealand and NSW, Furness has also served as an assistant coach in the WNBL and SEABL, and more recently, has worked closely with Victorian members of the men’s and women’s Australian Wheelchair teams, the Gliders and Rollers.

“We’re excited to have Shane join Kilsyth,” Manager of Basketball Operations Mark Watkins said.

“He brings a lot of experience to our wheelies program and we’re confident he will play a key role in the continued success of our mens team.”

Following a stellar 2015 WNWBL season, Hodgens will return to the helm for the women in 2016. Hodgens, who was also a member of the championship winning men’s team, led the Cobra women to a perfect regular season record and a sweep of the finals series, finishing the year with an unblemished 20-0 mark.

“It’s great to have Ben returning again after doing an unbelievable job this past year,” Watkins added.

“Going 20-0 is something you rarely see in elite basketball and Ben obviously deserves a lot of credit for helping our women achieve that.”
