Thomas started his basketball journey in 1958 in Hamilton, before moving over to Kilsyth in 1976. He soon formed the Basin Wildcats Basketball Club, a team he would serve both as a coach and administrator for many years.
After founding The Basin, Thomas then played a key role in entering Kilsyth into the SEABL (formerly SEBL), with the Cobras winning a National Championship just two years later (1985). He was a member of the Men’s team as either a Team Manager or Assistant Coach up until 1997. During this time, Thomas continued to coach at the Junior Domestic level, whilst also coaching several Junior Cobras teams.
Thomas was appointed as General Manager of Kilsyth Basketball in 1999, a position he held until 2007. He then took a position on the Eastern Sports Development Board from 2007 until early 2016. Thomas was a key member in the planning of Kilsyth Basketball’s Hall of Fame and continues to serve on its planning committee.
While Thomas has seemingly done it all during his time at Kilsyth, his kind hearted nature stands tall above his long list of accomplishments. Congratulations on your award, Dick, and thank you for your service.
