Riding a balanced scoring attack and stifling defence, the Cobras overcame an early double-digit deficit to earn a week off and chance to play for a spot in the VYC Championship game at home. The Cobras started Saturday’s qualifying final in nightmarish fashion, quickly falling behind 13-0 to the Spectres, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

But hot shooting off the bench from Isaac Ghosn and Isaiah Harvey’s toughness and hustle on both ends saw the Cobras close the gap to five at quarter time, with Ghosn’s buzzer-beating fadeaway three pointer stirring the home crowd into a frenzy. Riding the raucous home crowd stifling defence, the Cobras pieced together a big second quarter to take a 43-34 lead into the locker room, and they would not look back.

Overcoming a foul-plagued first half, Hamish MacDonald took over on the offensive end over the final 20 minutes, wreaking havoc above the rim en-route to 17 second half points as the Cobras pulled away for an impressive victory. MacDonald led the Cobras with 20 points and eight rebounds; Harvey finished with a 12-point, 10-assist double-double, along with five rebounds; Isaac Ghosn scored 15 off the bench; Lachie Vander Vorm added 11; and Ben Bara chipped-in with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.
