After five years of leading the Association’s officials, Spicer has opted to spend more time with family but will continue to serve Kilsyth as a referee.

“We are very appreciative of both the effort and passion Barry has displayed over the past five years as our Director of Referees,” General Manager Mark Griffiths said.

“Although he is stepping down, he still plans to officiate regularly so we’re grateful to maintain one of our most experienced referees, albeit in a lesser capacity.”

During his five year tenure, Spicer has had success both within the Association, and nationally and internationally on a personal level. Though he is a staple of International Wheelchair Basketball tournaments, Spicer is most proud of the development of young referees within the Association in addition to the implementation of the K&MDBA’s Championship Men’s division three-man officiating program.

“I’ve really enjoyed seeing the progress of some of our young referees who are now representing us at the Big-V and SEABL level, ” Spicer said.

“In addition to those Big-V and SEABL referees, we have a number of officials working junior tournaments and championships at both the state and national level who seem poised to take that next step soon.”

“I am confident that I leave Kilsyth’s officials in a good place.”

More news on the now vacated position will be made available soon.
