Incredible first quarter performances by Jamie Ahale and Jorden Adnam have led the VYC Men to a dominant 87-60 home victory over the Dandenong Rangers to secure a preliminary final berth next weekend.
The pair exploded on the offensive end to open the game, with Ahale burying four three-pointers – including a rare four-point play – as he scored 16 points during the first quarter barrage. Adnam added 10 on a variety of tough finishes inside, with the duo leading Kilsyth to a 33-12 lead after one period of play.
Ahale and Adnam kept it going in the second, with Ben Ursich joining in on the scoring spree to help put the game out of reach after just two periods of play. Ahale, Adnam and Ursich combined to outscore the Rangers, 41-24 during the opening 20 minutes of play, leading the Cobras to a 28 point halftime lead.
Despite holding an insurmountable lead heading into the second half, the Cobras simply would not let up, reeling off a 15-2 run in the third quarter to blow the lead out to a whopping 44 points before cruising the rest of the way as they recorded arguably their best win of the season.
Ahale led the Cobras with 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Adnam added 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists, Ursich recorded a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Mitch Dielemans chipped in with 13 points and five assists in the win.
The Cobras will now face the Melbourne Tigers on Saturday night with a berth in the VYC Championship series on the line. With the Tigers holding the head-to-head advantage over Kilsyth, this one will be played on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 6.00pm at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre.
