The Cobra VYC Men have booked a first round home final in two weeks time as they defeated Altona and Hawthorn on the weekend, while the VYC Women were eliminated from postseason contention as they fell just short at home against Ballarat.

With Jamie Ahale and Ben Ursich unable to play due to commitments with the Cobras SEABL team, the undermanned VYC Men recorded a pair of impressive victories, beating Altona on the road, 69-66 on Saturday night before backing up with a blowout 82-58 win at home over Hawthorn on Sunday.

Reigning Player of the Month Jorden Adnam (20.0ppg/5.5rpg/3.0apg) and Mitch Dielemans (25.0ppg/4.5apg) led the charge for Mark Landell’s Men over the weekend, while first year players Will MacRae and Roberto La Morticella also came up big with increased minutes.

With their record now standing at 14-7, the Cobras have secured second place in the Watson Conference and will host a first round final next Sunday at the Kilsyth Sports Centre (time and opponent TBC).

The VYC Women were eliminated from the playoff race with a 62-71 loss to Ballarat on Sunday at home, despite an impressive all-around performance from guard Bree Mackenzie. Mackenzie recorded a near quadruple-double in the loss, finishing with 23 points, 15 rebounds seven assists and seven steals, while Sarah Haberfield added 13 points on 5-7 shooting.
