Facing Nunawading at home on Saturday night, the VYC Women were again plagued by a cold shooting evening as they fell to the Spectres, 41-54. The Cobras shot just 14-59 from the field for the game and turned the ball over 24 times en-route to their third lowest scoring total of the season.

Bree Mackenzie carried the load for the Cobras, scoring a game-high 22 points in the loss.

After Saturday night’s tough loss, the Cobras were able to find their groove on the offensive end just in time on Sunday, riding a 28 point fourth quarter to defeat Diamond Valley on the road, 62-51.

With defence ruling throughout the first three quarters of play, both teams were locked at 34 apiece entering the final period before the Cobras – led by Taylah Black – took control of the game with a dominating 10 minutes of basketball. Black scored all 10 of her points in the final stanza, including five clutch free throws, while Chloe Anderson buried a game-clinching three-pointer with one minute remaining to put Kilsyth ahead, 55-49, securing the Cobras fifth win of the season.

Sarah Haberfield led the way for Kilsyth with a game-high 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds, while Black pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 10 points. The Cobras now sit sixth in the Watson Conference standings, 2.5 games behind fifth placed Bendigo. They’ll head down Canterbury Road to take on the Ringwood Hawks this Sunday on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 12.00pm.

In a battle of two of the VYC’s hottest teams, the Cobra Men came up short at home on Saturday night, losing to the undefeated Bulleen Boomers, 79-94.

Trailing by just three points at halftime, things quickly unravelled for the Cobras, as they were called for 21 personal and four technical fouls over the final 20 minutes of play to see a winnable game against the league’s top team slip away. With Bulleen seemingly getting to the line at will, the Cobras were forced to play catchup for most of the second half, but cold shooting from the perimeter put an end to any hopes of a comeback, with Kilsyth shooting just 8-25 from beyond the arc for the game.

Mitch Dielemans led the Cobras with 22 points, Jorden Adnam had a solid all-around performance with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Jamie Ahale added 15 points and Zac Wuersching chipped-in with game-high seven assists in the loss.

The Cobras record drops to 7-5, keeping them in the mix with Diamond Valley and Sandringham for second place in the Watson Conference. They’ll travel to Eltham to take on the Wildcats on Saturday night, with tip-off scheduled for 6.00pm.
