The Cobra Men dialled in one of their most impressive performances of the season against the Spectres, erupting in the second half to outscore Nunawading 48-24 over the final 20 minutes of play to win, 88-71. With the Spectres leading, 51-44 early in the third quarter, Mark Landells’ Men reeled-off an incredible 19-0 run to take control of the game and never look back.

Ahale led the Kilsyth charge after halftime, lighting up Nunawading with 23 of his game-high 30 points on spectacular array of deep jumpers and slashing drives to the rim. He added 11 rebounds in the win for his fourth double-double of the season, while Dielemans joined in on the double-double party, scoring 23 points and recording a game-high 10 assists. Adnam was big once again, recording 16 points, seven rebounds and a game-high five steals, Zac Wuersching added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Harry Frith provided a big boost on the defensive end for the Cobras, playing a key role in their second half defensive suffocation of the Spectres.

With their record now at 5-4 and facing a weekend doubleheader, the Cobras could climb to as high as second in the Watson Conference this weekend if they can take care of Knox on the road on Saturday night, followed by a strong performance against Diamond Valley on Sunday at home.

While the Men lit it up at home, the VYC Women were again plagued by struggles on the offensive end, falling short against rivals Knox, 58-64 at home. Despite another impressive performance from diminutive guard Taylah Black, the rest of the Brett Spicer’s Women couldn’t find a rhythm offensively for most of the evening, as they combined to shoot just 27% from the field.

They did find a spark late, though, with Black and Chloe Anderson leading a 28 point fourth quarter by the Cobras, but the Raiders seemed to have an answer for every Kilsyth basket down the stretch as they took out a six point victory.

Black led Kilsyth with 15 points and nine rebounds, Anderson added nine points off the bench, and Brooke McGurgan and Sarah Haberfield combined for 20 rebounds in the loss. The Cobras 4-6 record sees them currently sitting sixth in the Watson Conference standings.

Both the Men and Women are back in action at home on Mothers Day, with the Women tipping-off a Sunday doubleheader at 12.30pm against Melbourne, followed by the Men against Diamond Valley at 2.30pm.
