Allison’s remarkable rise to wheelchair stardom continued in 2016, with the Kilsyth junior putting forth another impressive year of on-court production. Not only did Allison help lead the Cobras to their second consecutive NWBL National Championship, but the former able-bodied Cobra and Fosters Phantoms junior officially cemented himself as one of the world’s best wheelchair basketball players, officially becoming a Paralympian as he represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

This is the second Charles Ryan Wheelchair Basketball Athlete of the Year award Allison has won in the past three years, having also taken out the award in 2015.

Following another incredible SEABL campaign, Kilsyth Lady Cobras Head Coach Sam Woosnam was named as the Basketball Victoria Coach of the Year for 2016 on Monday Night. Woosnam led the Lady Cobras to their second consecutive South Conference Championship last season, on the heels perfect home record and a 19-2 regular season mark overall. The Lady Cobras Conference title and league-best record was particularly impressive, considering that the team dealt with a myriad of injuries to key players throughout the season.

The award caps off an impressive season for Woosnam, with the fourth-year Head Coach also named the SEABL Coach of the Year for the 2016 season. Since the start of 2015, Woosnam has established herself as a rising star within the Australian coaching ranks, having amassed a 42-8 (.840%) regular season record during that span.
