Kilsyth Basketball is excited to announce that the Worawa Aboriginal College Basketball team, the Worawa Eagles, have successfully made it into the Junior Domestic Grand Final.
The College is Victoria’s only registered Independent Aboriginal school and was established nearly 30 years ago in response to the difficulties Aboriginal students faced in the mainstream educational system. It provides a quality education for students in the critical middle years of schooling (years 7 to 10), in a safe, culturally supported boarding school environment, for up to 70 young Aboriginal women from urban, regional and remote communities throughout Australia.
The Worawa Eagles team is made up of players from some of Australia’s most remote Aboriginal communities. Worawa Aboriginal College Executive Director Lois Peeler is excited about the Grand Final commenting that “the progress she has seen in the team in the past eight weeks has been amazing. The girls have proved to be very dedicated and talented Basketballers”.
The girls who have been selected to play in the U.16.C Grand Final againt the SEBC Saints (11) by Coach Tanya Birchell are: Tina Young (Santa Teresa); Alliyana Tipiloura (Wadeye – Port Keats); Nika Dumoo (Wadeye – Port Keats); Regina Inkamala (Hermannsburg) Lekara Campbell (Titjikala); Natasha Mayulayula (Milingimbi); Renelle Wunungmurra (Gapuwikak – Lake Evella) and Shanadon Mununggurr (Gapuwiyak – Lake Evella).
We wish Worawa Aboriginal College who are also celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year, all the best in their Grand Final clash.
