Last night saw the inaugural Kilsyth Basketball Junior Domestic Awards held at Club Kilsyth, with close to 150 in attendance, including Cr Len Cox, Deputy Mayor of the Yarra Ranges Council, Ross Heinrich of the National Australia Bank, members of the K&MDBA Executive and Board as well as Junior Domestic committee members, coaches and players. The night was a true celebration of the Junior Domestic Clubs and the valuable contribution they make to our community.

In 2011 Kilsyth Basketball plays host to 13 Junior Domestic Clubs who entered 474 teams into competitions which equates to around 4,000 local boys and girls aged from 4 to 21 years engaged in the sport of basketball. Each Junior Domestic Club is run by a band of hardworking, dedicated volunteers, who enable our youth to be involved in the sport of basketball while supplying a wholesome family environment to do so.

Each Junior Domestic Club was invited to submit nominations for a variety of Awards as was the Kilsyth Basketball community as a whole, the inaugural Awards received over 40 separate nominations which we hope to see grow as the event becomes a ‘must not miss’ night for the Kilsyth Basketball Junior Domestic community.

The Awards function saw the following awards presented;

A huge congratulation’s to every single nominee and Award winner. It is a fantastic achievement to be recognised by your peers and something you all should be very proud of. Also a special thank-you to our principal partner Swinburne University Lilydale for their support in sponsoring the Community Engagement Award.

The function also saw former Chairman of the Eastern Sports Development Board, Jeff Hunter presented with his Kilsyth Basketball Life Membership after over 25 years of loyal service to the Association. Jeff has played a huge role in shaping Kilsyth Basketball into what it is today, including playing an integral role in the redevelopment of the Kilsyth Sports Centre.

Overall the 2011 Kilsyth Basketball Junior Domestic Awards were a huge success and it is a night that is sure to become entrenched in every Junior Domestic Club calendar.
