2011 Season: 17 win 9 Losses 3rd East Conference,
2011 Post Season: def Dandenong (Semi Final), lost to Bendigo (Prelim Final)
It was an up and down season for the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras, when things were going well Kilsyth was almost unstoppable this included a nine game winning streak at the end of the season as well as late season wins over both SEABL grand finalists. However a 1-5 start to the season and an injury to captain Quincy Henderson mid-season meant that there was periods during the season when the Swinburne Cobras could not get things going their way. A 16-4 end to the season provided some excitement for post season glory.
Kilsyth’s end to the season was the story of the whole season after giving up a 20 point deficit at half time the Swinburne Cobras came storming home to be just pipped at the post by eventual SEABL runners up Bendigo. Even though ultimate glory could not be reached Grant Wallace and his team must be congratulated on a great 2011 season that will hopefully build the foundations for success in the coming years.
Kilsyth finished the regular season as the most defensive team in the competition only allowing opposition sides to score on average 70 points per game (6 points better the next opponent), as well as being the most accurate side from the foul line (76%) and beyond the arc (36%).
Kilsyth’s big man Tim Lang was acknowledged with his very first SEABL East Conference All-Star 5 after a season where he averaged 14.5 points, 8.7rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, Kilsyth’s MVP (Burns Wheeler Medallist) Matt O’Hea was an ever consistent player throughout the season averaging 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
After three seasons at Kilsyth Quincy Henderson will not be returning for season 2012 to commence life after playing and establish a career for himself back home. Henderson was named twice as SEABL’s best defensive player in 2009 and 2010 and always led from the front. Bryan Colson will also not be back in season 2012, he will be spending time with his family after the birth of his first child this year. Kilsyth would like to thank and congratulate both men for the time they have spent with the club and wish them both the best in their future endeavours.
