This weekend marks the final round of the SEABL season before play offs begin, the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras travel to the Ice House this Friday night to take on the Mt Gambier Pioneers. While the Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras head down to Frankston to face the Frankston Lady Blues this Sunday afternoon.

The Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras (16-9) continued their winning form last weekend with a 17 point defeat of the Canberra Gunners, to make it seven in a row. This week’s opponent, Mt Gambier also had a win getting over Sandringham by 26 points.

The Swinburne Cobras were challenged throughout the match against Canberra but their accuracy (53%) from the three point line in the second half that gave them the edge. Zach Malvik (23pts, 6as) top scored for Kilsyth he was well supported by Quincy Henderson (14pts 7rbds), Matt O’Hea (14pts, 5rbds) and Tariq Naqqash (14pts).

Kilsyth and the Pioneers faced off just three weeks ago in a one sided affair that saw the Swinburne Cobras run away 34 point winners, which all but killed the slim chance that Mt Gambier had of making the play-offs.

Even though Mt Gambier cannot make the play-offs for 2011 they will be keen to finish the season on a high, and with the Ice House rated as one of the toughest away venues in the competition the Swinburne Cobras have their work cut out for them, however Kilsyth has their eyes firmly on the play-offs and will want to continue their winning form.

The Swinburne Lady Cobras (17-6) must defeat Frankston (7-15) this Sunday to cement third position on the ladder, after splitting the results last weekend they will be keen to prove they really are contenders for the 2011 championship.

The Swinburne Lady Cobras got over the line by seven points against the hapless Sandringham on Saturday night but could not replicate their winning form against Bendigo on Sunday afternoon going down by 24 points. Frankston also had a mixed weekend of results travelling down to Tasmania; they ran all over Hobart, winning by 30 points but went down to Launceston by nine points.

Kilsyth will still be without Abby Bishop who is absent on Australian Uni. Games commitments but have proved throughout the season that they are capable of winning without her. Chantella Perera is beginning to hit her straps after finishing the weekend averaging 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4 assists. Hayley Moffatt was outstanding against Sandringham finishing the night with 26 points and nine rebounds and Eva Afeaki is always dangerous.

Sunday afternoons match should be an entertaining one but the Swinburne Lady Cobras should be too strong for the Frankston Lady Blues.
