With Head Coach Cheryl Chambers back at the helm the Swinburne Lady Cobras were unable to get the win going down to the Nunawading Lady Spectres by six points.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras shot at 50% from the field compared to just 31% for the Spectres, to take a four point lead into the second quarter.
Nunawading proceeded to dominate the game with Kilsyth only managing to shoot three and four baskets from the field in the second and third quarters respectively. Kilsyth seemed unable to have the answer to ex-Cobra Alice Kunek (27pts) who dominated play.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras staged a fight back in the last however it was a case of too little too late, with 36 seconds remaining on the clock Kilsyth trailed by just three points however the Lady Spectres were not going to let the game slip shooting truly from the foul line to close the game out, winning 61-55.
Chantella Perera was the Swinburne Lady Cobras best with 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Hayley Moffatt (14pts) was the only other player to reach double figures.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras must now defeat Sandringham this Saturday night and Bendigo on Sunday afternoon to ensure they finish in third position.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras face the Sandringham Lady Sabers this Saturday night August 13 in their final home game for the regular season; tip-off is at the unusual time of 8:15pm on Hugh McMenamin Court.
