With just four rounds left before play-offs, Saturday night’s games against Sandringham are the beginning of a big weekend for the Swinburne Lady Cobras and the Swinburne Cobras.

The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras (14-4) are fresh after a week’s break and ready to tackle a Sandringham Lady Sabers (1-19) side that was beaten by 63 points by Brisbane last Saturday night.

Kilsyth will be without Head Coach Cheryl Chambers again who is in Chile with the Australian Gems at the FIBA Under 19 World Championships, Peter Gay will again be taking the reins in Chambers absence. Abby Bishop will also be absent with Australian Opal commitments.

Kilsyth currently sit third on the ladder and will be in the play-offs, Sandringham however have only managed to win the one match thus far in 2011 and will be looking for their second against the Swinburne Lady Cobras however with Gemma Kerr back from illness and the strength of Eva Afeaki, Hayley Moffatt and Chantella Perera Kilsyth should be just to strong

The Swinburne Lady Cobras tip off at 5.45pm Saturday night July 30 against the Sandringham Lady Sabers at Sandringham Basketball Stadium.

After a fantastic win over Bendigo last weekend the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras (12-9) will be keen to continue their good form with a win over the Sandringham Sabers (12-10).

The Sandringham Sabers had a four point win over the Brisbane Spartans on Saturday night to consolidate their position in third on the South-Conference ladder, Kilsyth on the other hand went into their match against East-Conference ladder leaders the Bendigo Braves as under-dogs, and came out looking a genuine play-off contender with a nine point win.

What made the win all the more convincing was the fact the captain Quincy Henderson was still not 100% to take the court, fellow import Zach Malvik was outstanding with 30 points and 4 assists and took out SEABL player of the week honors.

The last time the Swinburne Cobras and Sandringham met was back in round 10, Kilsyth dominated the first half and looked as if they were going to run away with the win; however Sandringham came storming home but were unable to steal the win with Kilsyth getting over the line by three points.

This Saturday night’s match should be as enthralling as last time with both sides still needing to sure up their position in the play-offs; Kilsyth is currently the in-form side of the east-conference with three wins on the trot, while Sandringham has a good win-loss record at home winning seven from 11. Whatever happens the crowd will most certainly be in for a treat.
