After a tough weekend that resulted in two, three point losses the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras (1/3) are in need of a win, however the challenge is to beat 2010 SEABL National Champions the Geelong Supercats (1/2) this coming Wednesday night.
Kilsyth will be keen to make amends for their slow start so far in 2011, the losses to NW Tasmania and Bendigo both saw a slow starting and inaccurate Swinburne Cobra’s outfit. Kilsyth need to ensure that they play more like they did in the last quarter against Bendigo, where they scored 36 points and almost stole the game from the clutches of the Braves.
Still with-out big man Tim Lang, the Cobras have to ensure that they make the most of their opportunities throughout the game. Quincy Henderson, 2010 Defensive Player of the Year, has been a rock for the Swinburne Cobras as Captain he will be expected to stand up again and make sure that this time Kilsyth gets the win.
Tariq Naqqash, a late arrival for Season 2011, has slotted straight into the line-up and his ability to shoot the three has helped Kilsyth’s score power, come Wednesday night the home crowd will be hoping that the baskets are dropping and their tough run can end in a positive.
Geelong will be tough to overcome after only playing the one match over the weekend, with a five point win over Dandenong. Ismail Muhammad (29pts, 13rbds) and John Pichon (25pts, 3rbds) will be the danger men come this Wednesday after both having double doubles in the match against Dandenong.
Head Coach Grant Wallace believes that Wednesday night’s game will be a huge challenge “After the weekend’s results not going our way we return home to play the 2010 South Conference and National Champions in the Geelong Supercats. They too have improved on their 2010 roster with some major re-signings and signings and will provide a huge challenge before we take a well-earned Easter break”.
With Wallace coaching his 400th game, in front of what should be a large home crowd, the Swinburne Cobras will be sure to put their all in.
