GEELONG has taken a punt on a former Melbourne Tigers basketballer who hasn’t played football in three years.
The Geelong Advertiser reports the Cats have signed 23-year-old Ryan Bathie under a rule that allows clubs to list players on a supplementary list who haven’t played football in the past three years.
The 198cm Bathie, originally from Melton, spent four seasons playing college basketball in Louisiana before returning to Australia where he was on the Melbourne Tigers’ NBL roster and played for Kilsyth in the SEABL last season.
