The Faculty of Higher Education Lilydale has helped launch the L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program at a recent event held at Healesville Memorial Hall. The Faculty is the major sponsor of the program, providing funding to establish the program.

L2P has been developed by VicRoads to assist young people gain the mandatory 120 hours driving experience required to receive their probationary licence. The goal of the program is to reduce the high rate of probationary drivers seriously injured or killed on our roads.

Faculty Deputy Dean Janet Gregory spoke at the launch about the synergies that exist between Swinburne and the L2P program.

“Swinburne and the L2P program are committed to developing local young people’s life skills. These skills lead to greater career and social opportunities while establishing a sense of responsibility.”

Volunteer mentors provide driving supervision and friendship for local young people. Mentoring is an important part of the program and can help young people with their confidence and self esteem.
