Zavecz, a 6″1 forward originally from Wangarratta will suit up for the Swinburne Lady Cobras on Sunday against Ballarat.

Zavecz represented Victoria Country at National Championships in the U16, U18 and U20 teams. In 2001 she was team captain of the U16 team and helped lead the U20 team to a gold medal in 2003.

She was on scholarship at the University of Wyoming USA from 2004-2008 and started in all 30 games for the Cowgirls during her Senior year. She led the team with 13.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

In 2008/09 Zavecz returned to the WNBL after a successful college career in the USA. After recovering from a back injury she played in 17 games for Bendigo averaging of 6.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.

She signed with Bulleen in 2009/10 and was part of the team that lost to Canberra in the Championship game.  She averaged 9.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Boomers and was rewarded for her outstanding season with a spot in the Australian Opals squad.

Chambers is hoping Zavecz will be the final piece to her team after losing point guard Deanne Butler to a season long knee injury before the start of the season.

“Hannah will just build on the depth of our team and bring a lot of versatility to the group. She is a quality player who is athletic, can score and defend a number of positions.”

“We are happy with how we are currently sitting but the strength of the League this year means a single loss will send you back into the pack.”

“Signing Hannah gives us the depth and fills our final restricted spot for a deep run into the finals,” said Chambers.

Zavecz is looking forward to helping the Swinburne Lady Cobras and improving her game during the SEABL Season.

“It is great to have the opportunity to play for Kilsyth in the SEABL, I believe I can find a role which will help the team get better while working on my individual game.”

“I have been given a number of skills to work on following the Opals camp and playing for the Swinburne Lady Cobras will give me this chance.”

“I hope I can also bring some further experience and leadership to this young, talented and exciting team.  If we can continue to play the way the girls have been going we could go far,” concluded Zavecz.

With the Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras roster now complete the expectations are growing for another tilt at the Title.
