Deanna Smith kept up her scoring average finishing with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the Swinburne Lady Cobras but it was her efforts at the defensive end the made the difference.

Frankston’s star and Kilsyth’s key defensive match up Mikaela Dombkins fouled out in 24 minutes with just 7 points and 10 turnovers which allowed the Swinburne Lady Cobras to push on to a big win.

In a high scoring first quarter both teams found the hole on numerous occasions, with the defensive intensity lacking for both teams, Kilsyth managed to outscore the Lady Blues and lead 23-17 at the first change.

Jessica McCormack (13pts) was the main threat for Frankston and proved a handful for Kilsyth’s defence but a concerted team effort managed to hold the Lady Blues to just six points in the second term. Despite the excellent defence, Kilsyth were only able to score nine points of their own extending the margin to nine at the half.

Alice Kunek (17pts and 7 rebounds), Ellie Manou (13pts, 11rbds) and Gemma Kerr (13pts) all light up for the Swinburne Lady Cobras in the third term as they showed the Lady Blues a new tempo.

Kilsyth outscored Frankston 35-9 for the quarter to blow the game wide open. Head Coach Cheryl Chambers shared the court time in the final quarter and despite Frankston outscoring Kilsyth 16-13 for the term the result was never in doubt.

Kilsyth move to 4-0 on the Season and have set up a potential game of the week on the road against Bendigo next weekend.

The Swinburne Lady Cobras return home on Saturday 1 May 2010 to face the Sandringham Sabres at 6.15pm.
