The Lady Cobras secured their first win of the 2009 Crazy Johns SEABL Championship last weekend with a 71-61 win over the Ballarat Miners on the road.  Amy Denson was a standout with 26pts and 4 rebounds which earned her the Player on the Week award after holding Opals Squad member Cayla Francis to just 8pts and 10 rbds. 

Kilsyth will have their hands full with the fast starting Raiders who have built a 3-0 record early in 2009.  Caitlin Cunningham and Sarah Graham have been the main weapons for Knox.  Both Denson and Parsons will need to be at their best for the Lady Cobras to take the first leg of the Cystic Fibrosis Cup. With Clare Papavs due back in the Lady Cobras line up within two weeks a win could step the Season up well for Coach Jason Knight and his team.

The Swinburne Cobras had different fortunes in Round 2, going down to the sharp shooting Brisbane Spartans 108-97 at Kilsyth.  Despite playing some high quality basketball the Cobras could not keep up with the fast scoring Spartans and with Joe Werner and Quincy Henderson in foul trouble they struggled at the offensive end in the 2nd half.

This game against Knox will be one of the most fiercely contested SEABL games of 2009.  The teams split their 2008 encounters and these games always bring out the best in both team.  With each side has added important piece to their teams which has seen them as early favourites to make finals but the League is as close as ever and a win in this game will set the teams up for 2009.

Joe Werner will have the made up with Lester Strong, Chris Cameron on Cam Rigby, Henderson on CJ Massingale, Leonard on Hill and Wheeler on Carole with both starting fives looking like All Star teams.

The keys for the Cobras in this game will be the ability to shut down both Massingale and Hill from the perimeter while taking advantage of their strength inside.

The Women are scheduled to tip off at 6.00pm with the men taking to the floor at 8.00pm.

The Swimburne Cobras return home the following weekend to take on Launceston (12.00pm) and Hobart (2.00pm).
