Hayley Moffatt and Desiree Glaubitz led the 4th quarter scoring spree in on of the highest scoring quarters in women SEABL history. Moffatt scored a career high 30 points while Glaubitz finished with 28pts and 8 rebounds in her best game of 2008. Glaubitz has improved in her past few games and will be required to play a major role throughout the final three games of the season if the Lady Cobras wish to play finals.
In a tight first term Kilsyth could only manage 11 points as Frankston and new recruit Marita Payne (16pts, 8rbds) took a 4 point lead into the first change. Julie Ofsoski (22pts, 9rbds) and her sized caused the Lady Cobras plenty of problems but neither Ofsoski nor Payne could defend Moffatt on the break.
Coach Jason Knight let his team know that their season was on the line at quarter time and they responded to take a 4 point lead into the main break holding Frankston to just 13 points for the quarter. Leading 32-28 at the half, Knight will be pleased with an increased defensive effort, Kilsyth had given up close to 100 points against Nunawading and Ballarat in previous weeks.
The scoring opened up in the 3rd term but the Lady Cobras still managed to win the quarter extending the lead in the close game to 6 points. With the game still in the balance and young stars Papavs and Parsons being well contained Coach Jason Knight called on his most experienced player to give the team a lift.
Glaubitz responded in the 4th term and Moffatt ran basket to basket scoring in transition multiply times as the Lady Cobras put on 39 last quarter points while holding the Lady Blues to just 14, to finish with a comfortable win.
The Lady Cobras must back up again today to play their 3rd game in 5 days as they take on arch rival Knox away. Kilsyth will then return home in the Battle for the Ashes against Knox next Saturday Night 12th July. Two wins against the arch enemy will go a long way to consolidating a finals position in 2008.
