Currently in his 13th year of SEABL/ABA basketball, Burgess started with the Cobras back in 1996 as a fresh faced rookie, but after winning the 1999 Championship moved to Blackburn in 2000 before returning home to Kilsyth in 2005. He has played 308 ABA games in total.
“Playing 200 games is not something I am thinking too much about at the moment but it will be something I can look back on when my career is finished. For now I am focused on doing all I can to help the team get a win against Albury,” said Burgess.
Burgess has been a consistent contributor and great team mate over his years at the Club and has developed some great lifelong friendships.
“It has been great to be around such a fantastic bunch of people, I have many fond memories and friendships that I have developed in my career”.
Throughout his 199 game career with the Cobras, he has average 3.2 ppg and 4.7 rpg but his energy and hustle have been the characteristics his coaches have most admired.
“Paul has been a key member of this group throughout my time at Kilsyth, his experience, work ethic and team first attitude have made him an ideal player to have on the team,” said Coach Grant Wallace.
“Kilsyth has such a proud history and deservedly Paul will be a major part of this going forward as his singlet is placed on the court one wall.”
Burgess and the entire Cobras outfit have been busy preparing for Season 2008 with the aim of rectifying 2005 and 2007 Grand Final losses and returning to the glory of the 1999 Championship.
“My greatest memory at Kilsyth is winning the 1999 SEABL title. As a group we hope to replicate that success in 2008,” said Burgess.
The Cobras take on Albury at 8.15pm March 15th at the Kilsyth Sports Centre
