Tim Lang is set to lead the Cobra Men once again, re-signing with Kilsyth for the 2023 NBL1 season.

It was a memorable 2022 season for the Cobras captain, with Lang surpassing the prestigious 300 game SEABL/NBL1 milestone while turning back the clock with stretches of spectacular play. The 6’10 centre enjoyed a hot start to 2022, averaging 13 points per game over the Cobras first four games as he helped Kilsyth race to a 4-0 start. A lingering lower leg injury saw Lang sidelined for nine games, though, with the Cobras coaching staff opting to keep their veteran leader fresh for a playoff run.

Lang’s fresh legs proved to be huge for the Cobras at the end of the season, as he led Kilsyth in scoring during their playoff run (15.3ppg) with a trio of vintage performances. Lang’s clutch play helped Kilsyth come back from a 19-point semi final deficit to defeat Bendigo, and he followed that with 19 points in the Cobras narrow preliminary final loss against a Hobart Chargers frontcourt regarded by many to be the best in the league.

Lang’s impact was noted by head coach, Pete Godfrey, who attributed much of the Cobras success to his centre’s blend of leadership, IQ, and versatile skillset.

“Tim’s influence on this team transcends the stat sheet,” Godfrey said.

“We lost just six regular season games in 2022; and Tim didn’t play in five of those games.

“Veteran smarts, veteran leadership, a veteran Cobra. I’m glad that Tim has opted to continue his career and lead this group for at least one more season.”

The Cobras tip-off their 2023 campaign at home on April 1 against the Geelong Supercats.
