The event attended by over 100 people including Cobras No.1 Ticket Holder and the State Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs James Merlino, Local State MP David Hodgett, Shire of Yarra Ranges Mayor Tim Heenan and Local Ward Councillor Len Cox.
The night began with a video portraying the culture of the Kilsyth Cobras. Made by the players, the overwhelming theme was the family atmosphere, significant history and the unity within the Club.
Former North Melbourne AFL Premiership player and sports personality Peter ‘Crackers’ Keenan entertained the crowd detailing stories of his former Coach Ron Barassi and Football in the 70’s.
Mayor Tim Heenan presented the 2008 SEABL Lady Cobras with their singlets as Coach Jason Knight spoke about the upcoming season.
“We’re not going to have the flashy talents of other clubs but we’ll certainly make teams earn wins against us and we’ll get wins by working hard.”
“We will have to manage the group through the early parts of the season as a few injuries and the absence of Desiree Glaubitz until mid-April will be a challenge, but one I think the group is able to handle.”
Minister for Sport James Merlino presented the singlets to the 2008 SEABL Cobras men while Coach Grant Wallace told the crowd of the hunger for success within this group.
“After the Conference final loss last year, Jon Lee pulled all the boys together immediately after the game on the team bench and told them to come back stronger in 2008, and this is exactly what has happened. The additions of Gerard Leonard, Aaron Littlepage, Zach Malvik and Joe Werner have just added to the hunger for success within the group which aims to play a more consistent brand of basketball in 2008.”
Minister James Merlino was presented with his Number 1 Club Kilsyth Cobras jersey and spoke proudly of his excitement about watching the teams play this year.
Kilsyth’s Home Opener’s are scheduled for 15th March 2008. Women 6.15pm and Men 8.15pm Tip Off.
