Rick Foley has been appointed head coach of the Kilsyth Cobra VYC Women for the 2023 season.
Foley returns to Kilsyth following a one year stint at Warrandyte as head coach of their Youth League Women. Foley has enjoyed years of success within the Junior and Senior Cobras program, including a lengthy stint as head coach of the U16-1 Cobra Girls. Foley helped establish an elite U16 program during his time at the helm of the 16-1 Girls, which led to National Junior Classic and VC playoff berths, and the development of a number of athletes now striving within the senior Cobra program.
Foley has also served as an assistant coach for the NBL1 Cobra Women, and was an integral part of the Cobras 2019 championship winning team as he worked closely alongside head coach, Sam Woosnam. Foley also boasts lengthy experience within the Basketball Victoria high performance program – where he has held coaching roles in the State Development Program (SDP), and East Coast and Southern Cross Challenge tournaments – and as he was named assistant coach for the Victoria Metro U16 Girls state team in 2021.
Now the bridge between the junior and NBL1 Cobras, Foley is well situated to continue developing high-calibre senior Cobra athletes, while building an elite VYC program in the process.
“The club is pleased to have Rick on board as the Head Coach of the VYC Women’s program for 2023,” Kilsyth Basketball Manager of Basketball Operations, Mark Watkins said.
“Rick worked hard to earn this promotion through the Cobra pathway and will do a great job in preparing the VYC Girls for NBL1 and beyond.”
