The U14-1 Kilsyth Cobra Boys have reached the podium at the Australian Club Championships in Sydney, winning bronze on Friday to claim their stake as a top three team in the nation. 

Fresh off a Victorian Championship silver medal, the Cobra Boys enjoyed a stellar campaign up north, sweeping their first round of pool play in dominating fashion to advance to the top 12, then finishing atop their pool once again in the second phase of play to advance to the quarter finals.

A dominating quarter final victory over the Hills Hornets saw them advance to a semi final showdown against Nunawading in a VC title game rematch, but the Cobras fell short to the eventual champion Spectres.

Facing the Southern District Spartans from Brisbane in the bronze medal showdown, the Cobras raced out to an early double digit lead, led by the sharp shooting of wing Zane Miller (29 points). The Cobras would lead by as many as 21 points in the third period, but the Spartans would close the game with a furious rally, pulling to within two points with just over a minute remaining. But the Cobras regrouped in the final minute to seal a thrilling victory and a remarkable third place finish in Australia.

Liam Keogh (18.0ppg) and Miller (13.1ppg) led the way offensively for the Cobras throughout the tournament, but head coach Jamie Kupinic received outstanding contributions across the board from his group over the duration of the week, underpinning the strength of the third ranked team in the country.
