Kilsyth Basketball Association is excited to announce entries are now open for the 2022 Heartland Tournament, proudly supported by South East Melbourne Phoenix.
“Many players – particularly those who don’t play representative basketball – don’t get the chance to play in a tournament environment or against kids outside of their association, so this is a great opportunity for them.” Kilsyth Basketball CEO Will van Poppel said.
The tournament will be run by Kilsyth, Knox, and Frankston basketball associations, giving domestic clubs across the South East the opportunity to play like their Heartland Heroes across the tournament-style weekend.
Playing games across all three associations gives teams a chance to travel across the South East and compete against teams in the Heartland.
“After a few false starts due to Covid we are beyond excited to see entries open for the inaugural Heartland Tournament on Melbourne Cup Weekend. Many of our supporters young and old are involved in domestic teams, whether playing or helping out across South East Melbourne, so it was an easy decision to get behind the inaugural Heartland Tournament,” Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said.
“A lot of kids don’t get the opportunity to play in fun tournament-style competitions, which we believe is a great way to bring the community together and form stronger bonds within domestic clubs.
“We look forward to being a visible presence at the event and inspiring the next generation of Phoenix stars in what we see as a long-term addition to the Heartland basketball calendar,” Greer said.
The inaugural Heartland Tournament will be held across the Melbourne Cup weekend on October 29th and 30th and will be held across three major South East basketball associations.
The Heartland Tournament is open to all age groups, grades, and a wheelchair division, allowing players of all abilities to get involved and enjoy the unique experience of travelling together, spending time with friends and competing with teams across the Heartland.
Please note, this tournament is open to domestic teams only and must be the team you play for weekly and are registered with.
