The Youth Men will look to capitalise on the experienced gained this year with a strong 2008 campaign.  The YL Cobra Men were close in every contest in 2007 winning 3 of their last 4 games and were one of the top defensive outfits. A late season win over Grand Finalist Diamond Valley signified how far the group has come in 2007.  They will be looking to up the scoring and continue their hard-nosed defensive approach next year.

“I was pleased with the progress made with an inexperienced team this year.  The strong finish will be used as a springboard for 2008. We need to be serious about our off season program to adequately prepare for next year’s challenges,’’ said Coach Popp.

Kilsyth is excited about the return of Youth Women’s Coach Ed Dunstan to the side lines after a year off senior basketball.  Dunstan is a former Dandenong Rangers WNBL Assistant, Kilsyth Lady Cobras SEABL Coach and YL coach.  Having been involved in the junior program for many years at Kilsyth, Dunstan has a solid understanding of the group and where they need to improve from their 2007 campaign.

Ed is pleased to be back at the helm and said, “It’s an exciting but challenging time for this group of girls.  They have put in some hard yards over the past few years but it is now time for them to step up.  We will be looking to develop a winning attitude and culture over the course of 2008.”

“I have worked with the majority of these girls before at both junior and senior level and look forward to the task of returning Kilsyth to a perennial power through the development of our juniors into senior players,” said Dunstan.

The Youth League teams will begin preparations in November for the 2008 season and both young groups will be looking to improve by making finals.  As is the development philosophy of the club both coaches will be keen to see some of their players competing for SEABL positions in the not too distant future.
