Date: 10th November 2020
Communication Number: 1
To: All Kilsyth Basketball Senior Domestic Teams
From: Kilsyth Basketball Commission
OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION TO THE SENIOR BASKETBALL TEAMS
All Senior Basketball Teams
The Victorian Government’s latest announcements on Sunday 8th November 2020, made it “unclear” as to when Indoor Basketball will return. As it currently stands, all venues/stadiums are capped at 20 people only, regardless of the number of courts or annexes.
From November 23 (the Last Step of the Roadmap for reopening), there is positive news that both adult and junior participants can return indoors in a ‘contact’ or ‘non-contact’ scenario for either training or competition. However, a venue limit of 100 ‘patrons’ has been set for indoor community sport and a group limit of 20. The interpretation of the restrictions from Basketball Victoria are:
From 11:59pm on Sunday 22 November
VICTORIA WIDE
ALL AGES:
At this stage venue limits are 100 people max; which for Kilsyth and Lilydale Stadiums would equate to 20 people per court x 4 courts, running on 60-minute time slots.
This means we can return to 5 on 5 contact play with a limit of 20 people per court. What is unclear, though, is whether the 100 person limit includes coaches, spectators and officials. Basketball Victoria is trying to clarify this as soon as possible.
We have received a substantial number of Return to Play survey results, and there is an overwhelming desire from people to start playing as soon as possible, with Sunday November 29, 2020 a targeted return date.
For planning purposes, the week commencing Sunday 24th November through Saturday 28th November will serve as a ‘return to practice’ week, giving teams and players a chance to prepare for competitions tipping-off on Sunday November 29, 2020.
Based on these dates, a shortened Summer 2021 season will be run.
Should the November 29, 2020 start date not be achieved, then the commencement will be moved back. If we believe there is not enough time prior to the end of the year to start 5 on 5 competitions, then Kilsyth Basketball will conduct a 3×3 competition in some form (details TBC).
Team Registrations are still open and there is no cost to register a team.
