Kilsyth junior Bek O’Donnell has re-signed with the NBL1 Cobras for the 2020 season.
O’Donnell enjoyed a successful return to the NBL1 in 2019, playing a key role off the bench for the Cobras as they claimed the league’s inaugural championship. The Fosters Phantoms junior returned to Kilsyth following a three-year hiatus, with her impressive length and athleticism bolstering a Cobras deep front court unit last season.
With just under 150 NBL1/SEABL games under her belt, O’Donnell’s leadership was what shone most for Cobras head coach Sam Woosnam in 2019. And that leadership, coupled with her front court versatility, has her positioned to take a significant leap in the leap year – in particular on the defensive end.
“Bek has really improved in her leadership skills and with the loss of some experienced bigs, her development in that area is going to be a huge plus for our group,” Woosnam said.
“She’s a capable defender and we will look to give her some big defensive assignments this year, and I look forward to watching her grow and develop into that role. 2019 was her first season back after a lengthy break and I know she’s looking forward to contributing more to our team this season.”
O’Donnell and the Cobras tip-off their 2020 season at home in a showdown with the rival Knox Raiders – on Saturday April 18.
