Point guard Mitch Dielemans has re-signed with the NBL1 Cobras for the 2021 season.

Dielemans joins the Cobras for his first full-time season in the NBL1 following a dominant 2019 season with Kilsyth in the VYC. Dielemans led the VYC (Victorian Youth Championship) competition in scoring for the second straight season in 2019, averaging a remarkable 28.5 points per game, while adding 4.4 assists per contest — good for fourth in the league. The Cobras point guard shot 89.3 percent from the foul line – also tops in the league – and recorded four 30-plus point outings in 2019, highlighted by a pair of 45 and 39 point explosions against Hawthorn.

While Dielemans played limited NBL1 minutes in 2019, his combination of blistering speed, deadeye perimeter shooting and unique ability to finish around the rim have him poised for an expanded role in 2021 under head coach Peter Godfrey. Dielemans dominance in the VYC has Godfrey excited for what’s to come in the season ahead, with the Cobras head coach having kept a close eye on Dielemans progression over the past few seasons.

“I’m looking forward to working with Mitch as he moves into the senior ranks at Kilsyth,” Godfrey said.

“When I was last at Kilsyth, Mitch was still a junior playing in the Under 18’s, but since then he has made a massive impact at the VYC level. I had him on my radar during my time in the Big-V (at Hawthorn and Keilor), but I’m glad to keep him at home in the red and black.”

Dielemans’ ‘massive’ impact on the VYC included back-to-back league scoring titles, three consecutive VYC All-Star Five appearances and a state championship in 2017, wrapping up a stellar four year stint in Australia’s top Under-23 competition. He joins former VYC championship winning teammate, Ben Ursich, as the Cobras first two signings for the upcoming NBL1 season.
