The NBL1 Cobras take on the Dandenong Rangers at home this Saturday night in their final regular season game of the 2019 season, and we’re letting all Junior Domestic players (under 18) who wear their team gear enter FREE!

Saturday’s season finale is a huge one for the Cobras, with both the Men and Women looking to win their way into top-four positioning, earning a second chance come playoff time in the process.

The Cobra Women currently sit in a tie for fourth with Knox, with a win coupled with a Ringwood loss guaranteeing a top-four finish. The Rangers enter with an 11-7 record, currently sitting just one game behind the Cobras in the league standings. Kilsyth took down the first meeting over Dandenong in emphatic fashion on the road in Round 12, defeating the Rangers, 80-61 behind a combined 47 points from Sarah Boothe and Lauren Nicholson. The Rangers were without league-leading scorer, Bec Cole (31.7ppg/5.0rpg/5.1apg) in that one, though, with the WNBL star set to lace up on Saturday in a vital late season clash for both teams.

With just one game separating the Cobras, Knox, Nunawading and Dandenong as we enter the final week of the regular season, Saturday’s Women’s game is shaping up to be an absolute thriller, with playoff positioning and a double chance on the line.

The Cobra Men (11-8) split their Indigenous Round doubleheader to remain in fifth place in the NBL1 standings. Sitting one game behind Geelong for fourth, the Cobras would clinch a top-four finish with a win on Saturday night and a Supercats loss, but it won’t be easy, as they face a talented Dandenong team.

The Rangers sit in a virtual tie with the Cobras, entering the final round with a 10-8 record – tied with both Melbourne and Waverley for sixth in the league standings. Boasting six players currently averaging over 10 points per game – including former Cobra Tim Lang – the Rangers defeated the Cobras in their first outing, 95-84 in Round 12.

Plagued with injury and absences of late, the Cobras will be boosted by the return of Peter Hooley on Saturday night, while Tohi Smith-Milner is expected to play following an injury scare on Sunday against Frankston. With the winner of this one securing fifth (and potentially fourth for Kilsyth) and the loser at risk of dropping to as low as eighth, this one promises to – just like the Women’s game – have a playoff-like intensity; the perfect ending to our final regular season doubleheader of 2019.

The Women tip-off proceedings on Saturday night at 5.30pm, followed by the Men at 7.30pm.
