The Kilsyth Cobra VYC are playoff bound following a pair of key wins in the final round of the Big-V regular season last weekend.

Claire Knight and the Women punched their ticket following a 72-59 win on the road against Bendigo on Saturday, securing the head-to-head advantage over the Braves in the event of a tiebreaker. And thought they fell to Altona on Sunday at home, 72-83, the Cobras benefited from a pair of losses by Waverley to jump from fifth to third in the Watson Conference standings at season’s end.

The third place finish will see the Cobra Women take on longtime rivals, the Knox Raiders, in an elimination final this Saturday (7pm) at the State Basketball Centre. And though they lost their only matchup with the Raiders early in the season, the Cobras enter the postseason in impressive form, having won four of their past five games, setting the scene for a thrilling Saturday night showdown.

Mark Landells and the reigning-champion Men also finished their regular season campaign with the Watson Conference’s number three seed after losing to Bulleen on the road on Saturday to fall out of second position. The Cobras rebounded with an absolutely dominant performance at home on Sunday to lock in third place, destroying Altona, 108-69, to end the regular season with a 12-10 record.

The Cobra Men will begin their title defence on the road, taking on the Eltham Wildcats in an elimination final on Saturday afternoon (4pm) at Eltham High School. Kilsyth lost to the Wildcats in their only meeting back in Round 3, but boasting some potent offensive weaponry – led by Mitch Dielemans (21ppg/3.8apg) and Jorden Adnam (20.2ppg/9.2rpg/3.4apg) – the Cobras are well equipped to take down Eltham as they look to keep their season alive.
