The VYC Cobra Men and Women have combined to go 2-1 in Round 14 action, with the Women putting on a show at home in a blowout win over Ballarat, while the Men cruised to victory over Ringwood before dropping a close one on the road to Diamond Valley.

The Cobra Women put on a clinic against Ballarat on Saturday night at home, hammering the Rush. 73-44 to move to 9-9 on the season. Impressive two-way performances from Grace Moxey (11 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals) and Lauren Bird (11 points, four assists, six steals) and double-digit scoring outings by Britt Miller and Miranda Gartner led the way for the Cobras, who claimed to within a game of the fourth and final playoff position in the Watson Conference. With just four games remaining, the Cobras trail Waverley (10-9) and Bendigo (11-9) by a slim margin, and could potentially overtake Waverley this weekend as they face a Round 15 doubleheader.

The Cobra Men split their doubleheader weekend to remain in the hunt for a top-two finish, cruising to a 95-80 win at home over Ringwood on Saturday, before dropping an 86-95 road battle to Diamond Valley on Sunday. On Saturday night, the Cobras road an explosive first half and monster performances by Jorden Adnam (22 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists), Mitch Dielemans (24 points), Nick Feller (20 points, five rebounds), and Will MacRae (16 points, nine rebounds) to win big over the Hawks. The Cobras exploded out of the gates to lead by as many as 18 points in the first half, cruising to their eleventh win of the season.

Mark Landells’ Men were unable to make it a perfect weekend, though, with a third quarter lapse proving costly as they saw a winnable game against the Eagles slip away. The Cobras surrendered a 12-0 run early in the second half to fall in a 16 point hole, and despite a career-day by MacRae (31 points), their third quarter slip-up proved too much to overcome as they dropped to 11-8 on the season. Dielemans added 22 points in the loss, while Feller rounded out a strong weekend with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. The loss sees the Cobras fall to third in the Watson Conference standings, trailing second-placed Keilor by one game with a home showdown with the Thunder on the cards this weekend.

Both teams are in action at home this Sunday in a vital doubleheader for both groups, with the Women set to take on Dandenong (12pm), while the Men battle Keilor (2pm) for control of second place in the Watson standings.
